Math Focus for Oct 5th-15th

Dear Families,

For the next few days we will start Topic 3, Subtraction Strategies. We will learn different ways to subtract from numbers up to 18. Here are some of the things we can do to help with our math.

Please work on the math homework with your child.

Here are some of the strategies we are working on:

Double Digit Subtraction:

12-6 so 6+6=12 so 12-6=6
10-5 so 5+5=10 so 10-5=5
14-7 so 7+7=14 so 14-7=7

Think addition to subtract:

7-4= so 4+_=7 so 4+3=7 so 7-4=3
8-3= so 3+_=8 so 3+5=8 so 8-3=5
6-5= so 5+_=6 so 5+1=6 so 6-5=1

14-6= so 6+_=14 so 6+8=14 so 14-6=8
16-7= so 7+_=16 so 7+9=16 so 16-7=9
11-8= so 8+_=11 so 8+3=11 so 11-8=3
